Gone but never forgotten - The last of the Moonshiners

in the Great Smoky Mountains

If you have pictures of him and his model A at the show

please email them to me at HandlebarCorral@aol.com.  Maggie Valley will never be the same.

Popcorn passed March 16, 2009

Popcorn was  61 and was full of life the last time we spoke. But he was facing some time in the federal pokey. He was one of the last real moonshiners and was recently busted by agents with three 1000 gallon stills and 750 gallons of shine. He was soon expected to report to federal prison to serve two concurrent 18-month sentence for illegally brewing spirits and possessing a firearm as a felon. They are saying his death could have been a possible suicide. I am not sure but either way I can say he had his his pine box ready sometime back with two new shovels and a marker all ready for when that time come and on March 16, 2009 the time came. There are books, movies and songs about him so he will live on forever. I would like to ask if everyone out there that has been coming to the Thunder in the Smokies Rally to please look back in your pictures and see if you have some of him at the show in his A model truck he came in and visited with us from time to time. But I have no pictures of him at the show. I guess I thought he would come by forever. If you have pictures of him and his model A at the show please email them to me at HandlebarCorral@aol.com.  Maggie Valley will never be the same.
